MAX Card is a scheme that gives looked after children, their carers and other family members free entry to museums and galleries across the Yorkshire region. Generally, each card gives two adults and two children free entry to participating venues, though specific venues may have varying offers. The MAX Card scheme has been running in Yorkshire since 2004.
MAX Card is funded by Children's Services departments in Leeds, Calderdale, Wakefield, North Yorkshire, Rotherham, Bradford, Kirklees, York and Doncaster and is specifically open to looked after children in placements organised by these authorities. This site promotes the museums, galleries and libraries that participate in the MAX Card scheme. It offers direct links to both the web pages of the venues and also to their entry on 24 Hour Museum, a national portal featuring information on all the UK's publicly-funded museums.

In June 2007 the government published a paper called Care Matters: Time for Change. The paper tells us how services to looked after children will improve based on consultation with young people and people working with them. The paper highlights examples of good work with looked after young people, and MAX Card is one of these!
